The Arizona state Democratic Party passed a resolution criticizing Democrat Senator Kyrsten Sinema for her defense of the filibuster and her opposition to the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill.
Democrats want Sinema to recognize that she is on notice.
They warned Sinema that the state party will “closely watch” her upcoming votes.
Should she fail to vote in lockstep with the massive Democratic budget reconciliation package, they warn, it will “go officially on record” and they will “give Senator Sinema a vote of NO CONFIDENCE.”
A threat about as super serious as when your elementary school warned that something was going on your ‘permanent record’ during your childhood.
The resolution passed by a vote of 415-99.
By an overwhelming 80%+ vote, the Arizona Democratic Party has passed a resolution pledging a vote of NO CONFIDENCE in @KyrstenSinema if she fails to vote to reform the filibuster or doesn’t support the #BuildBackBetter reconciliation bill.

Arizona Democratic Party Mad At Kyrsten Sinema
Kyrsten Sinema, just last month, much to the chagrin of the Arizona Democratic Party, announced she could not back the massive $3.5 trillion party-line spending bill.
“Proceedings in the U.S. House will have no impact on Kyrsten’s views about what is best for our country – including the fact that she will not support a budget reconciliation bill that costs $3.5 trillion,” a spokesperson said at the time.
Progressives had been furious with Sinema for her vote against raising the federal minimum wage.

Further raising the ire of her own party, Sinema is slated to hold a fundraiser this week with business groups who are opposed to the budget reconciliation package being crafted by her party.
Senator Sinema has, according to a report by The Hill, told her Senate Democratic colleagues in private that “she is opposed to the corporate and individual tax rate increases that lawmakers on tax-writing committees in both the House and Senate are looking to implement.”
Those tax rate increases are being touted by the administration as a means to pay for the bill’s provisions on climate change, health care, and other issues.
As Democrats try to nail down the final details of their climate and social policy bill, @SenatorSinema will hold a 45-minute fundraiser on Tuesday afternoon with five business PACs, representing organizations fiercely opposing the bill. https://t.co/392IX60Yyh

Sinema Defends the Filibuster
Another sticking point for the Arizona Democratic Party is Kyrsten Sinema’s defense of the filibuster, something they feel stands in the way of their ability to jam proposed legislation through.
They warn that they must abolish the filibuster in order to push the progressive agenda through before Republicans regain control of Congress.
The resolution states in part:
“We all are facing a critical crossroads and nothing less than our Democracy is at stake, and as all indicators show Democrats could lose both the House and Senate in 2022 if we do not “deliver the goods” by passing voting rights, healthcare, Medicare expansion, two-year free college funding, immigration reform, specifically a path to citizenship for Dreamers, labor rights, green jobs, Climate Emergency /environmental protection legislation and more.”
Whatever happens, it’s a powerful counter to the ways conservative Democrats like @Sen_JoeManchin and @SenatorSinema have used their minuscule numbers in a super narrow majority to try to force their donors’ agenda on the Democratic Party writ large…

Sinema penned an op-ed in the Washington Post this past spring, defending the filibuster as a tool for democracy and pointing out that her own party has used it to further negotiations “toward better solutions.”
“My support for retaining the 60-vote threshold is not based on the importance of any particular policy,” Sinema explained. “It is based on what is best for our democracy.”
“I will not support an action that damages our democracy,” she added.
The Arizona Democratic Party has no interest in preserving democracy. They only have political goals in mind. Good on Sinema for standing up against such abuse of power.
