Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) spoke out on Wednesday to demand that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) resign hours after a former aide of his accused him of sexual harassment.
Cuomo Accused Of Sexual Harassment
Lindsey Boylan, the former deputy secretary for economic development and special adviser to Cuomo, penned a Medium post in which she accused Cuomo of making unwanted advances against her, and even attempting to kiss her on the mouth.
She alleged that his behavior was “normalized” by his top female staffers, and that he once invited her to play “strip poker” back in 2017.
Stefanik was deeply disturbed by Boylan’s claims, and she released a statement calling on Cuomo to resign.
“Governor Cuomo has earned his title as Worst Governor in America, and now every New Yorker knows that he is a criminal sexual predator,” Stefanik said. “On December 14th, I was one of the first and one of the only elected officials in New York State to call for an investigation into Governor Cuomo’s sexual harassment of Ms. Boylan.”
“It is an inexcusable disgrace that almost every other elected official in New York State quietly brushed this serious and credible allegation under the rug,” she continued. “Sadly, much of the media in the state either ignored this matter or chose to report the sexist character and professional smears of Ms. Boylan by Governor Cuomo’s taxpayer-funded staff.”
Stefanik Doubles Down
“I have served in Congress during the height of the #MeToo movement leading to resignations and retirements of my colleagues,” Stefanik added. “Sexual harassment and sexual abuse in the workplace is not a political issue, it is about right and wrong.”
“Governor Cuomo must immediately resign,” she concluded. “And any elected official who does not immediately call for his resignation is complicit in allowing a sexual predator to continue leading the great state of New York.”

This comes as Cuomo and his administration are being investigated by the FBI after it was reported that his top aide told Democrat lawmakers that officials withheld data about COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes due to concerns that the figures could “be used against us” in a federal investigation.
State lawmakers in New York have since called for Cuomo’s emergency powers, granted to him during the coronavirus pandemic, to be stripped from him.
